Plot summary
Hurricane Maria has left Puerto Rico in a severe economic downturn. In San Juan, Rafael "Rafa" Rodriguez, a used car salesman who left Florida after drifting apart from his children, finds 11-year-old Ana hiding across the street from his car yard after her mother is arrested. He intends to take her to social services, then cannot face the foster homes she might land in. His own cars are repossessed for unpaid loans, and a wager at a cockfight leaves him owing loan shark Diego $5,000, due in five days. Ana, who slipped after him and watched, tells him he needs her help. To raise the money and to place her with her father, the two drive across the island.
