Plot summary
Skylar Shane, a marine biologist, hires Jack Bowman, an expat charter boat captain, to take her into the north Sumatran Sea, where she hopes to collect samples of prehistoric life. The expedition reaches a fishing platform in open water, run by smugglers Jack knows. Tamal, an orphan sold into servitude there by his uncle, a Dukun, a shaman who practices black magic, asks Skylar to carry him away. The boy reminds her of Rebecca, the daughter she lost, and she decides she will help him. Strange things have troubled the platform since Tamal arrived, and she has no idea what waits beneath the dark water.
