Plot summary
Amar Singh grows up in a Ravidassia Dalit Sikh family in Punjab, writing lyrics as a teenager while he works in a socks factory. He breaks away and builds contacts with musicians across the state, and the known singer Jatinder Jinda takes him on and uses his lyrics in his own songs without giving him credit. When Jinda is late for a show, Amar Singh sings in his place; the crowd goes berserk and no longer wants the lead singer, and the name Chamkila sticks to him. His daring songs at live shows bring him an audience, success and furious criticism, with his second wife Amarjot Kaur beside him.
