Plot summary
Jean Colin proposes that he and his old friends share a house rather than live apart or in retirement homes. His wife Annie dislikes the idea. Albert has begun to show signs of dementia, and his wife Jeanne, a former university lecturer, has cancer but tells Albert she is cured. Claude, a widower, suffers a heart attack while climbing stairs to visit a woman friend. Albert is hospitalized after his dog knocks him down. To keep the dog, Jeanne and Albert hire Dirk, a German ethnology student, to walk him. Dirk changes his thesis to study France's aging population and moves in with the friends as a caregiver. Annie plans a pool to attract her grandchildren.
