Plot summary
Ichiro Miki lives in Kawasaki, where his father works on the trains and his mother works long hours, so the apartment is often empty. Bullies led by a boy nicknamed Gabara take his things and chase him; his friends are a toymaker, Shinpei, and a classmate, Sachiko. A news report tells of a bank robbery. Ichiro escapes into dreams of Monster Island, where he watches Godzilla battle giant mantises and other creatures and meets Minilla, Godzilla's son, who is tormented by a monster called Gabara. When Shinpei wakes him, his mother cannot come home that night, and the gang finds him outside again.
