Plot summary
I. F. Stone ran a one-man operation in Washington, putting out I.F. Stone's Weekly from 1953 to 1971 and using public records and overlooked stories to report what the mainstream corporate news media left alone. Independent investigative journalists who work in that spirit appear in the documentary, Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Amy Goodman and John Carlos Frey among them, and the challenges they face as they dig for the truth are part of it. The film takes in independent journalistic investigations of governments reaching back to the 1960s. John Carlos Frey reports on the cover-up of mass graves in Brooks County, Texas, about 70 miles from the border, where the bodies of immigrants who died crossing were discovered.
