Plot summary
Allison and Cheryl enroll in a college course on the psychology of fear, taught by Edward Derek. A classroom demonstration with a revolver humiliates Russ, and the university censures the class. Derek invites the students to his house for a private lesson. Allison goes with Cheryl. There he shares three stories about fear: a couple stranded on a coastal highway near a ruined mansion, four young women lost in an industrial part of Los Angeles after being thrown out of a club, and a woman at a telephone messaging service working a night shift after breaking her leg.

- Ken and Jim Wheat were inspired by the 1945 film Dead of Night to make a horror anthology, wanting something fully their own after working on The Fly II and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. Their success with Silent Scream convinced Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to take on the project despite studios' hesitation about anthology films.
