Plot summary
Two cat families live in Kenya's Maasai Mara. On the southern plains, the six-month-old lion cub Mara stays close to her mother Layla, both of them members of the River pride, whose leader is the old male Fang. On the northern plains, the cheetah Sita tends five newborn cubs. Kali, a large male lion, heads a second pride and wants to widen his own territory by taking over Fang's, but a river filled with crocodiles separates the two sides. When Kali and his largest son patrol near Sita's cubs, she draws the lions off by putting herself in their path. A zebra's kick hurts Layla during a hunt, and the River pride leaves after the migrating wildebeest.
