Plot summary
Animal rights activist Paul Watson and 45 volunteers take two Sea Shepherd ships into the Southern Ocean on Operation Leviathan, a campaign meant to hinder the Japanese whaling fleet around Antarctica. Watson commands the Farley Mowat, and Alex Cornelissen, on his first captaincy, commands the newly acquired Robert Hunter. The two vessels meet at sea, and the crews transfer material between them to build a helicopter deck on the Robert Hunter. The Farley Mowat cannot keep pace with the whalers, and the Robert Hunter is unsuited to Antarctic ice. No government backs the volunteers' attempt to enforce international law, and finding the Japanese ships in the Ross Sea proves harder than anyone expected.
