Plot summary

The Rose Noelle leaves Picton, New Zealand, with four men aboard, bound for Tonga in 1989. A storm in the southern Pacific drives a rogue wave into the trimaran and rolls it over, trapping Jim, John, Rick and Phil inside the hull. They cut through to open an escape hatch and set off an emergency beacon, certain a rescue will come within days. The beacon reaches one hundred nautical miles, and on June 13, eight days in, it goes silent. The fresh water in the tanks, 140 liters of it, is draining away and the men do not know. They build a device from lengths of plastic pipe to catch rain.
