Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Aalavandhan (2001)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The Aalavandhan song "Kadavul Paathi Mirugam Paathi" inspired a 2015 film of the same name directed by Raaj Menon, and director Anurag Kashyap said Quentin Tarantino told him the film's animated sequence inspired one in Kill Bill: Volume 1.
- Aalavandhan's soundtrack, released on 24 September 2001, set a record by selling over 200,000 copies within eight hours of its release.
- Kamal Haasan played two distinct roles in Aalavandhan: for one he shaved his head bald and gained ten kilograms, and for the other he took a crash course at the National Defence Academy and consulted his co-actor Major Ravi, a former Indian Army officer.
- Aalavandhan was announced with Kamal Haasan, Simran and Rani Mukerji, but Simran and Mukerji left over the delayed start and were replaced by Raveena Tandon and Manisha Koirala; producer Dhanu had first tried to cast Aishwarya Rai, who did not sign.
- Stunt choreographer Grant Page, who had worked on It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, staged Aalavandhan's Kashmir stunt sequences, while another fight was shot in Delhi over 15 days using 39 cars, three cameras and an imported machine called Airramp for jumping scenes.
- Composer Harris Jayaraj was first approached to score Aalavandhan, but refused because he had promised his first film to Gautham Vasudev Menon; the trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy were signed instead.
- Kamal Haasan wrote Dhayam in the early 1980s and it was serialised in the magazine Idhayam Pesugiradhu; he discussed filming it with K. Balachander but felt it was ahead of its time, and only in 2000 did he revive it with director Suresh Krissna.
