Plot summary
Fuentejuela de Arriba is a mountain town in Spain with sixteen residents, all of them elderly, and no children at all. Campello, the mayor of neighboring Fuentejuela de Abajo, warns that if the population drops to fifteen or fewer at the coming census, the town will be swallowed by its longtime rival. Teresa, the wife of Fuentejuela de Arriba's mayor, meets Azquil, Shukra, Latisha and Calulu, four Africans wanted by the police who were tricked into working as exotic dancers at a nearby brothel. She decides to bring them into the town to raise the count. The residents distrust the newcomers, and Teresa asks her friends Jaime and Guiri to help settle them in.
