Plot summary
Juan drifts through life in Havana with his accident-prone friend Lázaro. Out fishing, the two haul up what looks like a corpse, which wakes and attacks them; Lázaro brings it down with a spear gun, and they treat the whole thing as an oddity. Then random violence spreads through the city, and the government and its media blame dissidents backed by the United States. Bodies of the dead get up and walk. Juan spots a business opportunity: he and his friends kill reanimated residents for a fee. His daughter Camila plans to leave for Miami and stay with her mother, while Lázaro keeps trying to reach his son Vladi California. Drag queen La China and her lover El Primo are part of the group.
