A Quiet Place in the Country (1968) on Netflix

Plot summary

Leonardo Ferri is a well-known Milan painter whose canvases are priced by the market, and he has not completed one in two months. Flavia, his girlfriend, arranges a stay in the countryside so he can work again, though she knows about his disturbed state and the recurring dream in which she tortures him. Leonardo chooses a derelict villa outside Venice and hires a young woman named Egle as housekeeper. Flavia senses something hostile toward her at the villa and spends her weekdays back in Milan. Alone with Egle, Leonardo learns that a countess named Wanda lived at the villa and was shot dead on the grounds during the war, and that local men still tell stories about her.
