Plot summary
Malik El Djebena is nineteen, of Algerian origin, and cannot read or write. He arrives at Brécourt prison to serve six years for attacking police officers, after years in juvenile detention, and this is his first adult prison. He has no money and no friends inside. The prison is divided between Corsicans and Maghrebis, and Malik keeps to himself. César Luciani, who leads the Corsicans and rules through the guards' connections, draws him into the group's affairs and offers him protection.
