Plot summary
Coco brings her boss Valérie to the family home for Christmas Eve and, hoping to lift Valérie's spirits after a recent divorce, tells her the story of her sister Isabelle. Isabelle works as a dentist in Paris, sharing both a practice and a long relationship with Pierre. The two of them decide to marry, and Isabelle remembers the family curse: no woman in the family has had a happy first marriage. Isabelle and Coco settle on a scheme. Isabelle will marry a stranger, divorce him straight away, and then take Pierre as her second husband, free of the curse. A student in Copenhagen agrees to the arrangement. On the plane there Isabelle meets Jean-Yves, a tourism columnist traveling to Kenya, and the student fails to appear.
