Plot summary
Lillian Travers, a New York heiress, travels to St. Augustine, Florida, to stay with her aunt and to see her fiancé, Dr. Fred Cassadene, about their wedding. She means her arrival as a surprise, but the doctor is busy flirting with a widow at the hotel, and Lillian watches with jealousy. While sightseeing she comes upon an old curiosity shop, where she buys a box that matches one her aunt owns. It holds a note and four seeds that, the note says, turn the person who swallows one into a member of the opposite sex. Angry with the doctor, she decides to try one.

- The film's later life includes a place at the center of Antkind, the 2020 novel by writer and director Charlie Kaufman.
