Plot summary
Vincent Harris comes home one evening and passes a taxi driving away from his house. Inside, he finds that his wife Ashley has been murdered. Three years later he lives in New York, where his neighbor Alice Parker is in love with him. Vincent is consumed by the search for whoever killed Ashley and pays Alice no attention. She decides that if a culprit were found, he could take his revenge and be free of the past. Alice hails a cab driven by Roger Culkin, a lonely New Yorker, and sets her plan going without the knowledge of either man.
