Plot summary
Four weeks before Christmas, Jessie Patterston and her sister Vivian run an interior decorating business from the apartment they share, and Jessie has just ended her engagement to Mike, the third wedding she has called off. She concludes she is not meant to marry and swears off men. Aiden MacTiernan works as a personal investment advisor; his friend and business associate Matt Harper says women can sense that he avoids commitment, a claim Aiden rejects. Matt wagers that no woman will accept a proposal from Aiden before Christmas. Aiden agrees, provided he chooses the woman himself. He meets Jessie at an art function for a client and asks for her business card, which Vivian hands over because a client would help their business. Jessie comes to his condo to redecorate it.
