In 1983 the Board of Control for Cricket in India gets an invitation for the national side to play in the Prudential Cricket World Cup in England. Queen Elizabeth II greets the competing teams at a reception at Buckingham Palace, where Dev addresses his players in his developing English. Placed in Group B with Australia, the West Indies and Zimbabwe, India begins its campaign against the West Indies at Old Trafford and comes away with an unexpected result built on Yashpal Sharma's innings of 89 runs, which earns him the Player of the Match award.
