Plot summary
Kiko Mishima grew up in Tokyo in a family that had no place for her. Her mother neglected her when she was little, and after her mother remarried, Kiko was abused mentally and physically by her mother, her stepfather and her younger stepbrother. She did not belong to that family, so she leaves Tokyo and moves to a quiet seaside town in Oita. There she meets Mushi, a boy of 13 whose mother has abused him and who is unable to speak because of the trauma. In him, Kiko Mishima sees her own younger self.
