Plot summary
A celebrated paleoanthropologist, Michael O'Brien has seen the book he recently published ridiculed by academics in his field and praised by conspiracy theorists. The unorthodox research behind it has left his colleagues in the field shunning him, and he retreats to a rural outback with Alyssa, his party-animal sister, and with Dante, her latest boyfriend. There, in that isolation, he pursues that unorthodox work obsessively. The four of them, trapped there together, grapple with their responsibilities and with the notion that humans are the master species. His research in the outback brings him a discovery that could revive his career.
