Plot summary

Sébastien is a 22-year-old Georgian immigrant in France who takes construction jobs to support his family. He works on the home of Godon, a morphine addict under police surveillance. Godon dies of an overdose, and his widow tells Sébastien she cannot pay him. While she speaks with one of Godon's friends about a job Godon had arranged before his death, Sébastien overhears the details. Short of money, he steals an envelope containing instructions for the job. The envelope includes a train ticket, and the police begin following him. The instructions lead him to a secluded house in a forest, where a powerful criminal has organized a clandestine gambling event. Men there bet on the lives of others, and Sébastien is forced to join them.
