Plot summary
Tom Hall is an awkward teenager in Belfast. His friends are misfits. In 1941 the German air raids of the Belfast Blitz hit the city. Buster is a baby elephant kept at the city zoo. Denise Austin is a lonely widow, and her terraced house has a back yard. Tom and his friends take Buster from the zoo and hide the elephant in the yard behind her house.
