Plot summary
Neera, a young Arabian girl, is separated from her father when a band of robbers crosses the desert. She finds herself alone there until a black colt appears and stays with her, and she gives him the name Shetan. The colt brings her back to her grandfather Ben Ishak, and she greets her cousin Aden. Ben Ishak tells her that shootings in the desert have ruined his fields and that he cannot afford to keep his horses any longer. He has kept only Abha, an old plow-horse, and released his mare Jinah. When Neera reaches home again, the black stallion disappears.
