Plot summary
The Kolęda family lives in a provincial town in the early 1980s. The mother, Jadwiga Koledowa, is the energetic community leader of the town; her husband Wladyslaw keeps ducks and grows flowers at home, in tunnels. Their daughter Dorota is a pretty young woman with no work. Jadwiga learns that she will become a grandmother. Fear of a scandal and of the authority she could lose pushes her to a plan: Dorota must have a husband, and the man must be bought, marrying the girl and agreeing to a divorce ahead of time. The candidate they find has a criminal record.
