Plot summary
Roman Łapszow, a folk sculptor who owns a farm in the isolated Masurian village of Odlotowo, is the first to disappear. The strange Makarewicz family, among them Michal Makarewicz, moves into his property, pale-faced figures who always dress in black. They are a vampire family in camouflage, and the villagers take them for odd newcomers, nothing more. The disappearances continue: a postman, then Father Marek and his altar boy, then a woman from social services. A German man and his translator reach the village, interested in buying the farm.
