Plot summary
Historic footage and the accounts of roughly two dozen participants carry the story through the winter of 2013 and 2014, when crowds filled Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv. A trade deal with the European Union had been held out as a way to lift the country's prospects, and the government set it aside for an agreement with Russia. The decision brought people into the streets of the capital and into the square they occupied. Speakers describe the gatherings and the standoff that formed between the protesters and the government's forces. The months from late 2013 into early 2014 unfold in order, told through recordings made at the time.
