Plot summary
Bic Bickham is coming of age in Brooklyn in the late 1950s, and the vocational high school he goes to brings students of different races together under one roof, where racial tension divides them. Bic falls in love with Devlin Moran, who studies at a private school and comes from a wealthy family. When gunfire leaves one of the teenagers around him wounded, the group sets out to find whoever fired the shots.
