Plot summary
Margo, treated by Dr. Jeff Cameron after a suicide attempt, signs herself out of the hospital and sends him a telegram inviting him to visit her; he finds her living in a mansion. He falls for her and cancels an evening with Julie, the nurse he has been seeing. Learning that Margo leaves for Nassau the next day with her father, a tipsy Jeff calls unannounced and tells Frederick Lannington he loves the man's daughter. Lannington says Margo is his wife. Jeff goes, but a scream brings him back to find Margo holding an earring torn from her ear. Lannington hits Jeff with a fireplace poker, and in the struggle Lannington falls and strikes his head. Dazed, Jeff finds the man dead, and at Margo's urging the two drive toward Mexico.
