Plot summary
Private Roy Loomis arrives as a replacement at a front-line infantry company near the end of the Korean War. One night he sees a soldier leave camp in dark clothing and face paint, and learns the man is Private Raymond Endore, who crosses into enemy territory on his own. Captain Wallace Pratt lets Endore act independently because his nighttime trips bring back useful information. Endore also kills enemy soldiers with a knife, and Loomis watches him circle the bodies during a night patrol. The other men keep away from Endore and warn Loomis, who asks probing questions, not to mess with him.

- Producer Terry Sanders sent the script of War Hunt to the Pentagon hoping the Army would provide technical assistance, but the Army refused, objecting to a private soldier acting as an independent professional killer with his commanding officer's approval, a captain calling a sergeant an "idiot", and scenes it thought too gruesome.
- War Hunt was shot in just 15 days for US$250,000, and the Sanders brothers filmed most of it at night to hide their low budget.
