Nancy Hsueh

Biography

Nancy Hsueh was an American actress who started as a child performer, with roles in China's Little Devils (1945) and Intrigue (1947), films on which her father worked as a technical adviser. She appeared in War Hunt (1962), a Korean War drama, and in John Ford's Western Cheyenne Autumn (1964), and she was a frequent presence in the spy programs of the period, among them The Man from U.N.C.L.E., I Spy and The Wild, Wild West. In 1967 CBS cast her as the female lead of the soap opera Love is a Many Splendored Thing, playing Mia Elliott; she was among the first Asian American actresses to carry a U.S. television series, but network censors objected to the interracial romance and her character was dropped within a year. She had her best known film role as Boris Karloff's assistant in Peter Bogdanovich's Targets (1968), then took only small parts, ending with House Calls (1978).
