Plot summary
At Kurt Wallander's new house by the sea, a crayfish party with his colleagues is interrupted when an explosion at one of Ystad's power grids knocks out the city's electricity and the team is summoned in the middle of the night. In the same hours, the municipal commissioner, who has just opened an exhibition of pictures of the prophet Muhammed at the city hall, is found murdered in his home. With fewer officers than usual, Wallander and his men have to handle both cases at once. Cars parked on roads outside the city explode, the security service asks questions, the army is called in, and the minister of defense announces a visit.
