Plot summary

Klara is a chief inspector on Stockholm's robbery commission, and Frank, a surgeon who works with Doctors Without Borders, is the man she loves. The story opens with a holdup on a scale Sweden has not seen, executed with military precision. The robbers get away, and officers seal off a forest where the car they fled in is discovered on fire. One of the men fires at a police helicopter searching the woods, covering the others' departure. Klara and Greger Krona, who commands the SWAT unit, lead the pursuit, and they understand that these are no ordinary bank robbers: the men know when deliveries are made, how police work and how security is arranged, and their methods grow more sophisticated.
