Emmet Bergin
Biography
Emmet Bergin was an Irish actor, born in 1944 and died in 2024, who became best known for his long-running role as Dick Moran in the RTÉ soap opera Glenroe. He trained at the Brendan Smith Academy and started in theater as a prompter and assistant stage manager at the Eblana Theatre, then toured with the Irish Theatre Company before attending the Abbey School of Acting. In 1964 he played Joe in the first production of Brian Friel's Philadelphia, Here I Come! at the Gaiety Theatre. His stage work also included plays by Sam Shepard, Seán O'Casey, and Henrik Ibsen. On film, he had a small part in Ryan's Daughter (1969) and played Sir Ulfius in Excalibur (1981). From 1983 to 2001 he portrayed solicitor Dick Moran on Glenroe. Later television work included The Clinic, and he appeared as Aengus Fanning in Veronica Guerin (2003).
