Plot summary
At school, a pregnancy test tells Veronica Clarke she is pregnant, and Bailey Butler, once her closest friend, walks in on the result. Bailey offers to drive her to a clinic if she ever needs one. Veronica decides to end the pregnancy, then finds that Missouri will not allow it without her parents' consent. She works out a route to Albuquerque, where clinics treat patients without parental involvement, but she cannot cover the whole trip. Her boyfriend Kevin responds to the news with a marriage proposal and admits the condom broke. Veronica says she will think it over and keeps the ring, then asks Bailey to drive.
