Plot summary

Stuart, a salesman, loses his job over his bourbon drinking. A friend brings him along when the family travels to Paris, and there, under the Eiffel Tower, Stuart proposes to Rosalind, the friend's daughter. She is shocked and turns him down, so an embarrassed Stuart heads for the airport to fly home. There he falls in with Liam, a recently divorced Scotsman, who talks him into a train journey across France instead. Louise, a French winemaker, shares their carriage, and the three leave the train and have dinner together. When Liam's card is declined, Stuart hands over the engagement ring to pay the bill, and he and Liam sleep on park benches that night.
