Plot summary
The documentary presents the view that the United States treated Ukraine as a proxy in its long rivalry with Russia. To explain the divisions behind the 2014 uprising, it revisits the Cossack Hetmanate, the two world wars, Soviet rule over western Ukraine, Ukrainian collaborationism in World War II, the Babyn Yar massacre of Jews, the Volyn killings of Poles and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army's guerrilla war against the Soviets. It also describes Cold War contacts between the CIA and nationalist leaders such as Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych.
