Plot summary
Tsotsi heads a small gang of thieves in a Johannesburg slum, with Butcher, Aap and Boston beside him. A mugging on a crowded train ends with a man stabbed and Boston sickened. In the bar afterward Tsotsi mocks him; Boston needles him about his past, Tsotsi beats him and walks out into the rain. At a house gate he pulls a gun on a woman, takes her car and drives off, then hears crying from the back seat: a three-month-old baby. He carries the infant in a paper bag to his shack, where he has nothing to feed or change it with. He trails a crippled beggar, Morris, and asks why he still wants to live. Unable to care for the child, he brings it to Miriam, a widow nearby, and makes her feed it.

Two endings were shot for Tsotsi but left out of the film and later shown on its DVD: in one Tsotsi is shot in the shoulder and escapes back to the Alexandra slums, in the other he is shot in the chest and dies while John and Pumla look on.
