Plot summary
Henry Miller is an expatriate American writer from New York, and his money is gone. In Paris he survives on meals and a bed provided by his American friends. He scrounges drinks and food, tells clueless men how to handle women, flirts with the wives of people he knows, cuts ties and shares philosophical observations. Mona, his wife, makes the crossing to see him and goes back soon after, once she sees how he lives. He wheedles a little cash and spends it on drink and women. He and his friends chase art, money, food and sex in the city of Paris together.
