Plot summary
Word of the war reaches Olfat's household through a note left at home: her son Yonos writes that he and his friends are going off to fight as soldiers. She has raised a daughter and a son in hardship, and Yonos works at a copper mine in Kerman. The parents of his friends worry as she does. When the Valfajr operation fails, news comes to them about Yonos's friend, and Olfat keeps waiting for her own son. Learning that Iraqi radio reads out the names of Iranian captives, she straps a radio to her back and carries it everywhere she goes.
