Plot summary
In a Kurdish village in Iran on the border with Iraq, a family of five children is left to survive on its own after the father dies. Ayoub, the eldest boy at twelve, takes charge of the family and looks for whatever work he can find to support his brothers and sisters. His handicapped brother Madi is seriously ill, and Ayoub is told that Madi needs an immediate operation to remain alive. Ayoub sets out to collect money for the operation. He becomes a kolbar, working with a group of Kurdish villagers to smuggle truck tires close to the Iran-Iraq border.
