Plot summary

Hideo, a young art student, is painting an unnerving portrait of his girlfriend Tomie, who whispers that she loves him as he works. She calls the finished picture poor, and in a jealous rage he stabs her with an art knife. He asks his friends Takumi and Shun'ichi to help him, and the two arrive at the scene and dispose of the body, burying it in the ground. The three of them head to a bar for a party to cheer him up. A mysterious girl named Tomie is there, and she resembles the woman they buried in a few odd ways.
