Plot summary
As children, Marty and Carol Lakewood witness a violent killing that involves their father. In the mid-1950s the grown twins live on the California coast, depraved and incestuous. Marty has a talent for journalism, but he tires of each new job and loses focus easily. He seduces Lois Archer, a young police officer, and finds that she owns a beach house. He plans to cheat her out of it and keep the house for himself. Carol works as a prostitute, taking men's money and devising other ways to make them pay. The twins' mother, Mrs. Lakewood, is a weak-willed woman with no way to stop them.
