Plot summary
Philosophy, for Nathalie Chazeaux, is a way of living and thinking rather than only a job. She teaches the subject in a Paris high school and wants her students to think for themselves, working through texts that provoke confrontation and discussion. Her own past is permeated by youthful idealism. She is married with two grown children and divides her hours between her work, her husband and her mother, Yvette, an ex-model who needs constant attention and who is possessive. She also keeps up with pupils she taught in previous years. One day her husband announces that he is leaving her for another woman.
