Plot summary
Psychology graduate student Julia Lund is preparing for her master's exam when her childhood friend Billy Parks asks to meet her. Billy, afraid of the dark, says their childhood night terrors were caused by something otherworldly, and he tells her to keep away from the dark. He shoots himself. Grieving at her boyfriend Paul Loomis's apartment, Julia hears the shower and finds black fluid rising from the drain; the bathroom mirror opens on a space full of creatures. Paul wonders if she was sleepwalking. At Billy's funeral she meets his friends Terry Alba and Sam Burnside, who also suffered night terrors as children. Sam says all four of them were marked in childhood and that something wants to drag them into the darkness. Julia turns to Paul for help.
