The World of Kanako (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

Kanako Fujishima is a top student and, to everyone around her, a model daughter. Then she vanishes from home, leaving her belongings behind in her room. Her mother Kiriko turns to her ex-husband Akikazu Fujishima, a former detective who lost his job, his marriage and his place in his daughter's life after turning violent over her infidelity, and who now drinks heavily. Akikazu begins hunting for Kanako, questioning her former classmates and her old homeroom teacher and pressing them hard for answers. Police detective Asai is nominally part of the search but rarely takes part in it. The people Akikazu corners tell him little. What he does learn points to drug users in Kanako's life and to a daughter far from the one he imagines.
