The Wilby Conspiracy (1975) on Netflix

Plot summary

Shack Twala has served ten years on Robben Island for nationalist activity when the Supreme Court orders his release, because retroactive legislation would have made him a victim. Rina Van Niekirk, his defense attorney, and Jim Keogh, a British mining engineer who attended the trial and is involved with her, take him to her house to celebrate. Policemen carrying out identity document checks stop them; Shack's papers will not be issued until the next day, and the encounter turns into a scuffle in which a policeman is knocked to the ground. The three become fugitives. Shack means to reach Cape Town, where a stash of diamonds he entrusted to a dentist before his imprisonment is to finance the Black Congress Party. Major Horn has agents from the Bureau of State Security following them.
