Plot summary
Angela Chen and her partner Lee live in Lee's family home in Seattle, where Chris, Angela's best friend, shares the garage with his boyfriend Min. Min is a Korean student artist whose visa is about to run out, and his wealthy grandmother Ja-Young telephones from Korea to tell him he should come home and join the family company. Lee's second IVF attempt has not worked, and a third may be more than she and Angela can afford, so Lee wonders whether Angela might carry the baby. Min asks Chris to marry him; Chris refuses, afraid Min's grandfather will cut him off. Min and Lee then propose a different arrangement: Min marries Angela for a green card, which quiets his family and keeps him in the country, and he pays for Lee's treatment in return. Angela agrees.
