Plot summary
Harvey is a pianist worn out by touring. At a small station he gets off the train to buy cigarettes, and the vendor tells him that the towns an author invented, Liss included, exist and can be reached by bus. He stays behind on impulse, leaving his producer on the departing train, and walks to Liss, arriving by morning. There he meets Biche Seniel and is struck by her at once. Captain Gez owns the sailing ship, and Harvey joins it as a passenger.
